The project, led by Space Denmark and involving key research and innovation partners from Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway, aims to create a more unified regional space ecosystem.

This three-year program brings together leading institutions, universities and industry associations to reduce fragmentation in the Nordic space industry.

By sharing expertise and resources, Space Nordic seeks to increase the region’s international influence and position itself as a leading hub for space research, technology development and commercial growth.

The expected outcome is a stronger and more prominent Nordic presence in the global space economy. The initiative aims to create new partnerships, innovation opportunities and business growth across the region through coordinated international engagement, improved access to research infrastructure and closer collaboration between academia and industry.

Nordic countries collaborate in growing global space market

Space Nordic’s launch comes at a time when the global space sector is rapidly expanding.

At the same time, Europe is placing greater emphasis on technological sovereignty and strategic resilience, particularly in areas such as communications, security and environmental monitoring.

The Nordic countries have developed expertise in the space sector, but industry leaders believe more cooperation is needed to remain internationally competitive.

Acting independently risks limiting our impact across the region, but a collaborative approach can better showcase Nordic expertise on the world stage.

The initiative aims to leverage the region’s strengths, including internationally recognized polytechnics, advanced research facilities, and expertise in areas such as satellite technology, Arctic activities, climate monitoring, and secure communications.

Building a stronger Nordic space ecosystem

Space Nordic’s main objective is to strengthen the link between research institutions and industry. The project partners aim to accelerate the commercialization of research by helping to turn scientific discoveries into practical technologies and business opportunities.

The program also supports research-to-business initiatives (R2B), providing organizations with a better path to developing innovative space-related products and services.

Particular attention will be paid to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden to access research infrastructure.

By opening up access to testing facilities and technology resources across the region, Space Nordic hopes to lower barriers to innovation and encourage more companies to enter the space sector.

A unified Nordic presence at international events

One of the most visible aspects of this effort is our international support strategy. Over the next three years, Space Nordic will coordinate Nordic joint delegations at major global space conferences, trade shows and networking events.

Rather than representing separate countries, participating organizations will showcase their capabilities through a unified ‘Nordic Pavilion’ concept.

This approach aims to strengthen the region’s brand, attract international partners and create new opportunities for research collaboration, investment and commercial expansion.

Industry leaders believe that a coordinated international presence will help highlight the Nordic region’s collective strengths and raise awareness of its growing role in the global space economy.

Partners supporting Space Nordic

The project is led by Space Denmark and supported by a network of regional partners. These include the University of Southern Denmark, Tampere University in Finland, Uppsala Innovation Center and Innovatam in Sweden, and the Norwegian Space Cluster.

As Space Nordic begins its three-year program, stakeholders from across the region are encouraged to take part in shaping a more connected and internationally competitive Nordic space industry.
