Ariana Grande is shedding light on her decision to take a break from public life after her “Eternal Sunshine Tour” wraps up Sept. 1.
During her Aug. 3 concert, the singer briefly interrupted the show to speak directly to her fans and addressed an announcement that has left some fans worried about her well-being.
“Is it OK if we get a little real tonight? Is that OK?” Grande said during the show.
The 33-year-old went on to reference an announcement her team made earlier this week, which stated that she “will be taking a step back from visibility” after her tour ends.
“The announcement that was made yesterday is not a reactive or impulsive thing. It’s a decision that came from a thoughtful and empowered place,” she said.
On Aug. 2, a representative for Grande shared the following statement about the singer’s upcoming break: “She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny.”
While addressing fans during her concert Aug. 3, Grande said she wanted them to hear about her upcoming break directly from her.
“I heard that my fans were worried that negativity was ruining things for me. Nothing has been ruined,” she said.
Still, Grande offered some insight into her announcement, saying, “Boundaries can need to be set. Human beings can need a break sometimes.”
“And also, this can be, and will continue to be, the greatest experience of my professional career,” she added.
The announcement that Grande will be taking a break from life in the spotlight came just days after the release of her eighth studio album, “Petal.”
The singer and actor’s team did not reveal when she will return to public life, but she has backed out of her planned appearance in a summer 2027 revival of Stephen Sondheim’s musical “Sunday in the Park with George.”
In July, Deadline announced that Grande would no longer be appearing in Season 13 of “American Horror Story” as a result of scheduling conflicts with her tour.
In recent months, Grande has faced increased scrutiny over her physical appearance, with many fans expressing concern about her weight.
It’s a topic Grande has addressed on numerous occasions throughout her career. During a 2024 interview, she grew emotional while discussing beauty standards and critics.
“I’ve heard every version of it, of what’s wrong with me, and then you fix it, and then it’s wrong for different reasons,” Grande said at the time.
During the interview, the singer reflected on the dangers of criticizing others’ bodies.
“I think in today’s society, there’s a comfortability that we shouldn’t have at all commenting on others’ looks, appearance, what they think is going on behind the scenes or health, or how they present themselves. … And I think it’s dangerous for all parties involved,” she said.
