Ryan Murphy’s “Monster”-verse is expanding again.

The hit true crime anthology series returns for its fourth season today, Sept. 17, with eight new episodes focusing on the series’ first female perpetrator: Lizzie Borden.

“I am so excited for viewers to experience our exploration of Lizzie Borden’s story and the questions that her life animates to this day,” “Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story” star Ella Beatty told Netflix. “This season gives us our first female ‘Monster’ and delves into female rage and repression which I’ve found to feel strikingly relevant. I cannot wait to share it with the world.”

The season will follow Lizzie Borden, the accused perpetrator and prime suspect in the 1892 murder of her father and stepmother, who were bludgeoned to death with a hatchet.

“When the repressed daughter of a wealthy New England family and her rebellious maid find themselves trapped in a house built on humiliation and cruelty, they escape into a fantasy of sex, power, and revenge,” Netflix’s official synopsis reads. “The gruesome unsolved murders that follow don’t just shock the world — they give birth to an icon who refuses to live imprisoned in a cage, choosing instead to forge her own legend: shocking, monstrous, and gloriously free.”

Past installments of “Monster” have followed Jeffrey Dahmer, Erik and Lyle Menendez, and Ed Gein. Charlie Hunnam, who portrayed Gein in Season 3, returns for Season 4 in a new role.

Ella Beatty (“Feud: Capote vs. The Swans”) stars in the lead role of Lizzie Borden. She is joined by Vicky Krieps in a dual role as Borden family housemaid Bridget Sullivan and Elizabeth Báthory, an alleged serial killer; “Monster” Season 3 lead Charlie Hunnam as Lizzie’s father Andrew Borden; and Rebecca Hall as Abby Borden, Andrew’s second wife and Lizzie’s stepmother.

Murphy mainstays Sarah Paulson and Billie Lourd are also part of the cast, portraying serial killer Aileen Wuornos and Lizzie’s older sister Emma Borden, respectively. Jessica Barden, Joey Pollari and Oliver Spenceman round out the cast.
