Supported by the United Nations General Assembly, this groundbreaking event aims to celebrate the potential for transforming quantum science in shaping a resilient and sustainable future.

The opening ceremony brought together leading scientists, policymakers and industry experts to highlight the role of quantum research in solving global challenges.

The importance of quantum science in the 21st century

Quantum science is at the forefront of modern innovation that affects fields ranging from physics and chemistry to biology and computing.

Its applications drive advances in environmental surveillance, healthcare and climate change solutions beyond theoretical research.

International Quantum Year highlights the urgency to bridge the quantum divisions around the world and promote interdisciplinary collaboration to harness these emerging technologies for social benefits.

UNESCO’s commitment to global collaboration

The UN General Assembly declared 2025 as the year of international quantum science and technology to provide a platform for global cooperation.

UNESCO, the leading IYQ institution, has launched a series of year-long initiatives aimed at increasing scientific capabilities in the global South, promoting STEM gender equality, and ensuring comprehensive access to quantum research. I am led.

The opening event featured keynote speeches, panel discussions and cultural performances, and was set on a year-long stage dedicated to quantum progress.

Interactive exhibition introducing quantum innovation

As part of the launch, the exhibition took place from February 4th to 5th to provide participants with the latest quantum breakthrough immersive experience.

The exhibition, held at Salle des Actes and Salle des Pas Perdus, exhibited cutting-edge technology and future applications, providing an interactive platform for general engagement.

The Institute of Physics and IOP Publishing support IYQ

The Institute of Physics (IOP) and IOP Publishing (IOPP) employ international years and embrace a robust calendar of events spanning the UK and Ireland.

Quantum researchers in these regions have made progress in areas such as energy optimization and medical imaging, enhancing the practical impact of quantum science.

The major upcoming events for Quantum International Year are:

Quantum Information Conference – Royal Society (February 19-20) Commercialized Quantum Global – Economist, Quantum Summit, London (May 13-14) – (October 8) Quantum Conference – International Quantum Physics of IOP School Events ( (September 2-4) Quantum Materials Conference – (June 24-27) World Quantum Day Showcase – Public Engagement Initiatives in Ireland and Scotland – Universities and research institutes holding exhibitions at Quantum Week, London and Dublin is characterized by the history and future of Quantum Technologies. -June 6) and Keynote speech by Professor Jim Al Kariri (November 9)

Tom Grinyer, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Physics, commented:

“This year is an incredible opportunity to inspire more people from a wide range of backgrounds to explore the ways Quantum understands the world and has the potential to address the biggest challenges.”

A year of discovery and innovation

The International Year of Quantum Science and Technology represents a pivotal moment in quantum research and its real-world applications.

By fostering international collaboration, filling knowledge gaps and promoting public engagement, IYQ is expected to have a lasting impact on the future of science and technology.

As events unfold throughout 2025, the world witnesses quantum breakthroughs continue to shape industry, economy and everyday life.
