HR Giant Workday is launching a new way for businesses to track all their AI agents in one place. They also launch several more of their own AI agents on the right scale.
Silicon Valley-based Workday announced the release of its Workday Agent System of Record on Tuesday. This is intended to allow agents to track AI agents in one control center, whether they are managed by Workday or a third party.
This system gives companies a visibility to the company what all agents are doing, the tasks they have actually completed, and who has access to which agents in the company. The software tracks the impact and predicted costs of each AI agent. The platform allows businesses to turn agents on/off completely, or turn certain skills and tasks on or off.
Workday CEO Carl Eschenbach said in a briefing at a press conference that as AI agents become more and more of an enterprise company’s workflow, companies should have a way of managing them like people. “The workforce is expanding,” Eschenbach said. “It’s no longer human workers, it’s now digital workers, and we need a unified platform to manage the entire workforce in the future.”
Eschenbach added that AI will be one of the biggest technological breakthroughs of our lifetime, but companies are still nervous about adopting technology. He said he was worried that they could lose control of their company’s agents or that the agents could access data they shouldn’t have. Workday hopes that this product can reduce stress.
Workday has also unveiled its own new fleet of AI agents, focusing on areas such as payroll, contracts, and financial audits, among other things. The company previously released four agents in September, gaining target areas such as recruitment and talent mobility.
Workday’s new agents, like many other AI agents, are intended to be more role-driven than task-driven. Workday’s Chief Product Officer David Somers said that the role-focused by these agents compared to tasks means that they have specific knowledge and expertise and can work better with human employees. “A lot of people talk about agents, but these agents today do tasks. They’re just doing repetition and making it faster,” adds Eschenbach. Ta. “The true power of agents is when they are based on roles, and these role-based agents may start with skills, but they have many skills over time.”
Workday does not charge companies for using the AI Agent Management Platform, but rather for using the Workday AI Agent as in the past.
The announcement is about 8.5% of its employees after firing 1,750 employees a week later, Eschenbach said when the world changed, with the company saying it would be more AI. They need a new approach that is looking to consider hiring talent.
