According to the latest conference and industry association (MIA) Insights report, trust in the UK business conference and event sector remains high, with 61% of companies projecting high revenues in 2025.

Looking at 140 venues, suppliers, agents and destinations, the report shows that an average of 41% of forecast revenue for 2025 has already been confirmed.

This has shown a 10% decline since last year, but the industry is optimistic that a steady stream of research will support overall growth. This includes international events that account for 12% of projected revenue.

Recruitment and retention remains an important issue

In addition to revenue forecasts, the report highlights ongoing issues. Difficulty in staffing:

48% of companies have found recruitment to be “somewhat challenging” over the past year, with 18% reporting significant difficulties. Intensified candidate competition, lack of recruitment resources and high sales were cited as major barriers. In response, 53% of organizations have implemented work-life balance initiatives, while 38% have strengthened wages and profits to improve pay and retention.

Contract Disputes and Instant Booking Trends

Other findings are as follows:

A third (33%) of venues offer instant book options for event organizers. A quarter of respondents (25%) have experienced significant contract disputes over the past year. 62% identified cancellation policies as an important issue in contract negotiations.

Industry outlook

MIA CEO Shonali Devereaux (pictured) said securing new businesses and maintaining talent is important for growth.

“Our latest findings highlight the optimistic sector for the next year, but recruitment and retention raise concerns,” she said. “We will continue to provide actionable resources and industry support to help businesses navigate these challenges.”
