After Klarna, Zoom CEO will also use AI avatars in Quarterly Call

The CEO is currently very immersed in AI, sending out avatars to deal with quarterly revenue calls, at least in part, rather than himself.

After Klarna’s CEO AI Avatar appeared on investors’ phones earlier this week, Zoom CEO Eric Yuan followed suit and used the avatar for his first comment. Yuan has deployed custom avatars via Zoom Clips, the company’s asynchronous video creation tool.

“I’m proud to be one of the first CEOs to use avatars in a revenue call,” he, or rather, his avatar, said. “This is just an example of how Zoom pushes the boundaries of communication and collaboration. At the same time, we know that trust and security are essential. We took AI-generated content seriously, prevented misuse, protected user identity, and incorporated strong protective measures to ensure that avatars are used responsibly.”

Yuan has long advocated for the use of avatars in meetings, and previously said the company aims to create users for digital twins. He is not alone in this vision. The CEO of AI-driven transcription service Otter reportedly trains his own avatar to share workloads.

Meanwhile, Zoom said it is making custom avatar add-ons available to all users this week.
