Liane Hart, CEO and co-founder of Verility, explains how Fertile-Eyez offers accurate breeding recommendations, reduced costs and increased profitability with improved SOW fertility management.
Traditional methods for tracking sow ovulation in the pig breeding industry face high costs and inefficiencies. We will introduce Fertile-Eyez™, the first artificial intelligence (AI)-powered mobile software designed to enhance SOW breeding practices. This innovative solution provides accurate breeding recommendations and increases the profitability of breeders.
Recent studies, including ratings of 400 sardines on two farms, show that fertile ice creams provide fewer inseminations that produce comparable or better results. By utilizing this technology, producers reduce semen dose and labor, increasing return on investment with a ROI of 1.6 times. Fertile-Eyez transforms Sow fertility management, process optimization and results improvements.
To discuss the details and possibilities of this technology, Liane Hart, CEO and co-founder of Verility, will give you more details.
Why is innovation in the animal reproductive sector so important today?
Pregnancy rates are highly correlated with producer profitability and food sustainability, driving an increase in meat protein demand, which is more than 70% by 2050, driven by an increase in meat protein demand.
Unfortunately, achieving successful pregnancy remains a significant hurdle, with failure rates reaching up to 50% depending on the species. This results in billions of dollars in productivity and revenue losses, and significantly reduces the availability of meat proteins in food supply. The difficulty in assessing sperm quality and ovulation, especially on farms, highlights the insufficiency of current methods.
As a result, the process, particularly regarding ovulation detection, is outdated and ineffective, creating an urgent need for improved reproductive techniques in livestock.
What are the main challenges facing animal breeding and breeding?
New technologies today require a significant amount of skilled labor and are often lacking in terms of accuracy, leading to increased costs associated with multiple insemination and semen doses. This not only increases costs, it also requires more time and labor, and ultimately results in a reduction in sustainability indexes related to labor, genetics, feed and waste. Furthermore, there has been no major confusion in this category for over 25 years.
Please tell us about Verility and its flagship technology, Fertile-Eyez. How was it developed?
Verility revolutionizes livestock breeding with low-cost mobile fertility diagnosis that directly provides lab grade accuracy on farms, addressing the billions lost each year by livestock producers due to missed breeding windows.
Our innovative AI-driven platform, Fertile-Eyez, enables real-time detection of optimal breeding windows, failed insemination, reduced costs, and increased herd productivity. This plug and play device is designed for scalable and farm use across species, providing a snapshot of fertility that combines the capabilities of skilled lab technicians with digital palm microscopes.
Initially launched in the US pig ovulation detection market, Fertile-Eyez has proven to improve conception rates and genetic indexes while providing significant cost savings in sperm doses and labor. Breeders can tell fewer times and achieve reproductive performance comparable to traditional methods.
This technology demonstrated effective results for pigs, validated models for wild boar semen analysis, and comparable improvements in sow breeding performance. This reduces the dose of semen by 40%, lower boars and fever tests by 45%, and provides a 38% pregnancy rate for non-standing fever sows.
Furthermore, it accelerates genetic improvement without hormonal intervention, reduces dependence on skilled heat checkers, leading to a smarter and sustainable approach to animal breeding, while achieving an overall thinking rate of 91%.
What are the key features of technology? Also, what makes it unique?
We develop highly accurate models that guarantee reliable performance, appealing to users who prioritize accuracy. The device is designed to be mobile and fast, allowing for seamless integration into a variety of environments and applications. Because we understand the importance of affordability, we have been committed to ensuring that we have access to our products without compromising quality.
Additionally, it enables producers to achieve profitability and create situations that are beneficial to both parties for all involved. This blend of accuracy, mobility, speed, affordability and profitability is the secret to driving our innovation and success.
What are your current and near future version plans?
We have launched a Pioneer launch program (a step-by-step customer rollout). This deployment is designed to respect your business and priorities, and we strive to carefully deliver careful innovations built with our customers.
In parallel, we are actively campaigning for fundraising as we work to close this summer’s Series B round at $12 million. This funding can reach full commercial launches and achieve positive cash flows while also starting to expand into new species and geographical markets.
testimony:
“There’s nothing in the literature that shows that 1xAI is better than 2xAI right now. This is the closest set of results I’ve ever seen in a place where controls aren’t winning…”
– Kara Stewart, Smithfired Foods, Director of Production of Boar
“…The advantage is that it is a diagnosis that works with animal biology and is a diagnosis rather than a hormone used to force ovulation.”
– Amanda Minton, Manager of Acufast, Reproductive Solutions
“…impressive… I like the protocol being customizable by Farm/Sow.”
– Kilby Willenburg, Acufast, pig breeding specialist
“These are very good results…these improve the genetic value of weaned pigs…weaning now allows us to estimate the amount of ovulation that has never been done before.”
– Dr. Alan Singkel (Professor Full) of Purdue University, Pig Breeding and Genetics
