According to the information, You.com reportedly has less than a year built assistants with a focus on building work-related task assistants from generic AI searches.
“AI Search Startup You.com is in discussions to fund a push to AI search to raise funds at a $1.4 billion valuation,” the information reported.
The talk follows You.com’s $50 million Series B round last year, including Bucking from Georgian, Salesforce Ventures, Nvidia, Gen Digital, SBVA (formerly Softbank Ventures Asia), Duckduckgo and Day One Ventures. The round brought total funds to $99 million, pushing its valuation between $700 million and $900 million.
You.com saw a surge in attention as ChatGpt was launched in late 2022 and rode the wave of interest in searching for AI-powered. However, the momentum did not last. As Reuters pointed out, users began to lose interest and the company struggled to keep up with rivals such as Microsoft’s AI-injection Bing and Google’s smarter search response.
According to SimaryWeb, traffic to You.com visited 11 million last year, up from a height of 20 million in February 2023. The app download was also a hit. Sensor Tower data shows a 69% decline from the previous year, indicating the difficult battle for AI startups trying to attract user attention.
Still, You.com doesn’t stand still. The Palo Alto-based company has repositioned its position as an AI assistant aimed at increasing productivity while providing internet search. On its website, You.com highlights its ability to assist with tasks such as summarizing information, answering questions, and supporting daily workflows.
The company was founded in 2020 by former Salesforce AI, led by Richard Socher and Brian McCann. Socher, CEO and Chief Scientist, previously said that the platform can generate text, write code and interact with a variety of tools to provide accurate results. He did not respond to requests for comment on the funding plan.
The AI assistant space is being heated rapidly. Google, Microsoft, Openai, and even Apple are deploying smarter products that blend AI with productivity and personal search capabilities.
You.com charges $15 a month for a premium plan (charged annually) to give users access to key AI models and productivity features. That’s just under $20 monthly prices from Google, Microsoft and Openai.
