Amazon’s new and improved Alexa experience, Alexa+, starts at $19.99 and is free for Amazon Prime subscribers. It will unfold in Early Access, which will launch in the US next month, and will then appear in a wider group of users over the next few months, Amazon said.
Echo Show 8, 10, 15, and 21 devices get Alexa+ first. It is unknown that other devices will get support, such as Amazon speaker-only Echo Dot and Echo Pop. I didn’t specify Amazon.
As part of the launch of Alexa+, Amazon is making its debut on Alexa.com. Alexa.com is a new web experience designed for “long form” work. It also introduces an updated Alexa mobile app with a new interface and features.
“Today, with generator AI and fully reorganized Alexa, we move the world from chatbots to something entirely new,” said Amazon’s chief Panospanai, New York on Wednesday. He spoke on stage at the event.
At $19.99, Alexa+ is competitive with other generative AI-powered chatbots in the market from a pricing perspective. Both Openai’s entry-level, paid ChatGPT plan and Gemini Advanced, a premium version of Google’s Gemini Assistant, are $19.99.
However, prices are higher than rumors. Reports suggest that Amazon will charge between $5 and $10 for upgraded Alexa.
