At an event in New York on Wednesday, Amazon announced its upgraded Alexa experience, Alexa+ -. On the stage, Amazon’s device and services chief Panospanai called the “complete reorganization” of AI assistants.
“Alexa’s vision remains ambitious and incredibly persuasive, but this moment — in this moment — we have been limited by technology,” Panay said. “The AI chatbot itself isn’t led by Alexa’s vision.”
Amazon says the new Alexa can answer questions such as “How many books have I read this year?” We use information from Amazon customer accounts. For example, you can always notify us of new tickets for concert drops and assist with specific tasks, such as booking dinner reservations.
“I know most of the new Alexa [everything] In your life – your schedule, your clever home, your preferences, the devices you use, the people you connect to [to and] Your entertainment [enjoy]Panay said.
Like other assistants on the market, the upgraded Alexa has a visual understanding. Through the device’s camera, you ingest video feeds to answer questions and take into account anything that’s happening in the footage.
Panay says the improved Alexa can understand the tone and environment around it and adjust its response on the spot. “She is trained in several different ways, from EQ to humor to understanding,” he added. “She understands I’m a little nervous, she’s trying to calm me down.”
Aside from tasks like creating quizzes from study guides or creating basic travel itineraries, Alexa+ can respond to queries such as “What is the best pizza nearby?” The answers are informed by Alexa’s “memory” and the preferences and preferences Alexa pointed out over time.
The new Alexa also has visual components. Amazon’s Echo Show Smart Displays, Alexa+ Powers photo gallery, and other personalized content feeds. The new “For You” panel displays widgets such as smart home controls, as well as timely updates based on user interests.
As expected, Alexa+ integrates firmly with Amazon’s wider smart home ecosystem. Users say the command to play Amazon Music Alexa on Amazon Music on a supported smart device connected to the same Wi-Fi network, or fire TV devices to specific scenes in movies and TV shows You can have it skipped.
Alexa+ summarises the footage from the ring security camera to explain what’s going on in the scene, and raises a particular moment. “She’s your virtual security guard,” Panay said.
Amazon is selling the new Alexa as a serious productivity tool, not just a generic assistant. Users can upload files and documents (plus email), and Alexa, according to the company, can analyze and refer to these in the future.
For example, a user could say things like, “I have forwarded my work schedule, are there any interesting events that I need to pay attention to?” Alexa also highlights important items in your document. However, Amazon has not yet shared details on how users can send Alexa to such files.
Beyond simply reading files, Alexa+ can perform certain actions on those files. For example, you can add text to a calendar from a document and create a reminder from information found in a specific document or email.
Of course, AI is a notorious hallucinogen. Amazon claims that Alexa+ is accurate and reliable, but you’ll need to see if those claims endure when new experiences begin later this year.
