The Walt Disney Company announced Thursday a three-year partnership with OpenAI to bring the company’s iconic characters to its Sora AI video generator. Disney has also made a $1 billion equity investment in OpenAI. Released in September, Sora allows users to create short videos using simple prompts. The new deal gives users access to more than 200 animated, masked, and creature characters, including costumes, props, vehicles, and more from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars. These characters include iconic faces such as Mickey Mouse, Ariel, Belle, Cinderella, Big Hero 6, and Simba, as well as characters from Encanto, Frozen, Inside…
Scientists have announced that they have developed a breakthrough 3D interconnect solution that can increase the number of quantum bits (qubits) that a quantum computing chip can support by 100 times.A typical quantum computing processor (QPU) is built with two-dimensional horizontal wiring, similar to the central processing unit (CPU) in a classical device. However, this traditional wiring limits the number of qubits that scientists can cram into a given processor. For example, the chips currently available from Google and IBM contain approximately 105 and 120 qubits, respectively.A new architecture called VIO-40K overcomes this limitation by using three-dimensional vertical interconnects, according…
Dec 11, 2025Ravie Lakshmanan This week’s cyber stories show how fast the online world can turn risky. Hackers are sneaking malware into movie downloads, browser add-ons, and even software updates people trust. Tech giants and governments are racing to plug new holes while arguing over privacy and control. And researchers keep uncovering just how much of our digital life is still wide open. The new Threatsday Bulletin brings it all together—big hacks, quiet exploits, bold arrests, and smart discoveries that explain where cyber threats are headed next. It’s your quick, plain-spoken look at the week’s biggest security moves before they…
Messaging app Freedom Chat has fixed two security flaws. One allowed security researchers to guess registered users’ phone numbers, and the other allowed users to set a PIN and make it available to other users on the app. Released in June, Freedom Chat advertises itself as a secure messaging app, and its website claims that users’ phone numbers are kept private. However, security researcher Eric Daigle told TechCrunch that the user’s phone number and PIN code used to lock the app could be easily obtained by exploiting the vulnerability. Daigle discovered the vulnerability last week and shared its details with…
December 11, 2025Ravi LakshmananCyber Spy / Windows Security Cybersecurity researchers have revealed details of a new full-featured Windows backdoor called NANOREMOTE that uses the Google Drive API for command and control (C2) purposes. According to a report by Elastic Security Labs, the malware shares code similarities with another implant codenamed FINALDRAFT (also known as Squidoor) that uses the Microsoft Graph API for C2. FINALDRAFT is believed to originate from the threat cluster known as REF7707 (also known as CL-STA-0049, Earth Alux, and Jewelbug). “One of the main features of this malware focuses on using the Google Drive API to exchange…
Spoor was founded in 2021 with the goal of using computer vision to reduce the impact of wind turbines on local bird populations. Now, the startup has proven its technology works and is also seeing demand from wind farms and other sectors. Spoor, based in Oslo, Norway, has built software that uses computer vision to track and identify bird populations and movement patterns. The software can detect birds within a radius of 2.5 kilometers (approximately 1.5 miles) and works with commercially available high-resolution cameras. Wind farm operators can use this information to better plan wind farm locations and better navigate…
Norway-based browser company Opera has finally released its AI-powered browser Neon to the public after months of testing. However, you have to pay $19.90 per month to use it. Opera first announced Neon in May of this year and opened early access to some users in October. Like other AI-first browsers like Perplexity’s Comet, OpenAI’s Atlas, and The Browser Company’s Dia, Neon includes an AI chatbot in its interface that you can ask for answers about pages, use it to create mini-apps and videos, and perform tasks. Browsers use your browsing history as context, so you can ask your browser…
December 11, 2025hacker newsAutomation/Compliance As companies refine their strategies for handling non-human identifiers (NHI), robotic process automation (RPA) has become a powerful tool for streamlining operations and increasing security. However, RPA bots have different levels of access to sensitive information, so businesses should be prepared to mitigate different challenges. Bots are beginning to outnumber human employees in large organizations, and without proper identity lifecycle management, these bots pose increased security risks. RPA impacts identity and access management (IAM) by managing bot identities, enforcing least privilege access, and ensuring auditability across all accounts. Keep reading to learn more about RPA, the…
When is winter? Forecasters in the Northern Hemisphere report what is known as meteorological winter from December 1st to the end of February. However, based on the Earth’s tilt and orbit around the sun, it will be from December 21, 2025 to March 20, 2026.This is an astronomical winter, beginning at the winter solstice, when the days are the shortest of the year north of the equator, and ending at the vernal equinox (or “isonight”), which marks the beginning of spring.According to the date and time, this year’s winter solstice will occur at 10:03 a.m. ET (15:03 UTC) on Sunday,…
Spotify may be synonymous with music streaming, but it also has a sideline in a hugely popular developer tool called “Backstage.” Backstage is an open source project that helps companies build their own internal developer portals. A catalog of developer tools and an easy visualization of the work they did and other metrics. However, like many open source projects, Backstage is an option to build yourself. Israeli startup Port uses its own Backstage competitor to win big customers like GitHub, British Telecom, and LG. Backstage is a developer tools portal that also supports AI agent management. On Thursday, Port, founded…
