Chris Robinson wasn’t happy with the crowd’s display of patriotism at the Black Crowes’ concert in Florida on Sunday night (May 31).
As seen in a clip from the show in Tampa, some members of the audience at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheater began booing after the singer reprimanded him for yelling “USA! USA!” The chant reportedly came about after the band’s stage visuals featured a mascot dressed as Uncle Sam.
“Some of us have real faith,” Robinson responded to an angry concertgoer. “And for all of you booing us, some of us aren’t afraid. And we’re definitely not ignorant. So thank you.”
TMZ reports that the rocker also said of the chant, “Thank you for the geography lesson…I don’t know what you’re so proud of right now.”
According to a video shared by X, the exchange resulted in many audience members walking out of the show.
Robinson isn’t known as the most politically outspoken musician, aside from his displeasure with Donald Trump’s presidency in 2017. But the crowd in Florida, a historically red state, learned the hard way that he wasn’t necessarily satisfied with the state of the country.
The Black Crowes will continue their tour on Tuesday (June 2) with a show in St. Augustine, Florida, followed by performances in Augusta, Georgia and Charlotte, North Carolina. The band’s new album, A Pound of Feathers, was released in March, shortly after it was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2026. (This band was ultimately not selected for induction into the Hall of Fame.)
