Mamarody Sandown, owned by the African Football Presidential Federation, is fined for fan disability.

The African Football Union (CAF) fined the $100,000 presidential club after a violent fan clash in an African Champions League match between two teams going to the US FIFA Club World Cup this summer.

Mamelodi Sundowns, owned by South African mining billionaire and FIFA vice president Patrice Mossepe, violated the safety and security rules hosting the April 1 match against Tunisian Esperance, the CAF said in disciplinary control late Thursday.

Motsepe has been president of African Football’s Governance Body CAF for four years and was re-elected last month for not opposition.

The African soccer group said “Sunset is necessary to strictly implement CAF regulations, guidelines and directives, especially the safety and security measures designated in future matches.”

Esperance was fined $150,000 for fan fraud, linked to a clash in the stands in the quarterfinals first leg game, according to the CAF.

The Sundowns won their first leg 1-0 in Pretoria and reached the semi-finals after finishing 0-0 in Tunis a week later. The South African team on Saturday hosts another club World Cup team, Egypt’s Al Ahly, in the first leg of the semifinals.

Sundowns and Esperance are coming to the US in June as two of Africa’s four entries in the first 32 Team Club World Cup hosted by FIFA.

Both qualified for consistently good results in the CAF Champions League through 2024 over four years.

The sunset is depicted in a Club World Cup group with Ulsan in South Korea, Borussia Dortmund in Germany and Furminence in Brazil, playing games in Orlando, Cincinnati and Miami.

Esperance belongs to the group with the third team that will become Chelsea in England, Flamengo in Brazil and Leon. These games are located in Philadelphia and Nashville.

Leon is hearing May 5th with the Madrid Sports Arbitration Court in appeals to the FIFA decision. The Club World Cup will take place in 11 cities in the United States from June 14th to July 13th.
