ChatGpt Search, OpenAI features within ChatGpt, allow ChatBot to access and incorporate updates from the web into its responses. This is growing in European fast clips.
A report submitted by Openai Ireland Limited, one of Openai’s EU corporate divisions, has increased ChatGPT search, the average monthly active “recipient” for the six months ended October 31st, from the average monthly average active recipients for the six months ended October 31st, 2024.
Openai regularly publishes information about ChatGPT searches to comply with the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), which regulates many aspects of online services in European countries. DSAs use the monthly active recipients to[people] “By being exposed to or providing information that is prevalent in the online interface of an online platform, such as displaying, listening, or providing information,” “You are involved in the Services at least once, at least once in a particular period.

One component of the DSA will instruct “very large” online platforms or search engines (engines with an average monthly average recipient of over 45 million) to allow users to opt out of recommended systems and profiling, share certain data with researchers and authorities, and perform external audits. CHATGPT searches may be subject to these requirements, assuming current growth trends will be brought about.
Online platforms that do not comply with DSA rules can be fined up to 6% of global sales. Platforms that continue to refuse compliance could result in temporary suspensions in the EU.
ChatGpt searches have invaded current employees like Google since their debut last year. According to a poll published in September, 8% of people said they chose ChatGpt as their main search engine over Google. But Google is far from the dominant online search tools. The estimate handles 373 times more searches than ChatGPT.
Researchers found that CHATGPT searches and other AI-powered search engines were less reliable than traditional searches, depending on the query. According to one study, CHATGPT incorrectly identified 67% of articles searched. Another study surfaced the accuracy issues associated with the handling of ChatGpt news content, including content from publishers with which Openai has licensed it.
