ChatGPT search using OpenAI upgrade shopping feature

Openai can update ChatGpt Search, ChatGpt Search, the web search tool, to improve the online shopping experience for its users, the company announced on Monday.

When CHATGPT users search for products, ChatBot provides some recommendations, presents images and reviews of those items, and includes direct links to web pages where users can purchase the product. Openai says users can ask super-specific questions in natural language and receive customized results. First, Openai is experimenting with categories such as fashion, beauty, household goods, electronics and more.

Openai is deploying the functionality of the default AI model of ChatGPT-4O. Today, for CHATGPT Pro, and free users, and for logged out users all over the world.

CHATGPT Search Updates are part of Openai’s efforts to compete with rival Google by creating better, more personalized experiences to find products and information on the Internet. Online shopping is one of Google’s most important companies, but the advertising market, which buys priority placement in Google search, has also contributed to declining product quality over the years.

Openai claims its search products are growing rapidly. Users conducted over 1 billion web searches on ChatGPT last week, the company told TechCrunch.

Openai says it is independently determining the outcomes of ChatGpt shopping, noting that ads are not part of this upgrade in ChatGPT search. According to Openai, shopping results are based on third-party structured metadata such as pricing, product descriptions and reviews. The company will not receive kickbacks from purchases made through ChatGPT search.

Openai CEO Sam Altman has historically been against ChatGpt ads, but in a recent interview with Stratechery’s Ben Thompson, he changed the song slightly. Altman said Openai will be open to “classy” ads that charge affiliate fees for purchases made through ChatGPT, but the results do not sell priority placements.

Soon, Openai says it will integrate memory features with shopping for Pro and Plus users. This means that ChatGpt will reference the user’s previous chat and create highly personalized product recommendations. The company previously updated ChatGpt to reference memory when creating web searches widely. However, these memory features are not available to users in the EU, the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.

In addition to this update, ChATGPT Search now displays trend searches when users start typing questions, similar to the autocomplete feature in Google Search. Additionally, ChatGPT search is coming to WhatsApp, allowing users to send messages to their company chatbots to get the latest answers.

Openai previously investigated shopping capabilities through operators, the AI’s “agent” platform. This can take seconds to minutes to browse dozens of web pages and find products that are relevant to your users. ChatGpt searching on shopping is a much faster and more hands-on experience, allowing users to search for products using natural language queries.
