As Earth Day approaches on April 22nd, Cirba Solutions is stepping up its environmental efforts with a dual focus: restoring forests and expanding access to safe battery recycling across the United States.

This initiative reflects an increased emphasis on measurable environmental impact, restoring damaged ecosystems, while tackling the less visible but equally urgent challenge of responsible recycling.

Karen Gay, Community Engagement Manager at Cirba Solutions commented:

“Battery recycling is a fundamentally sustainable option and it is vitally important for the environment that we prioritize expanding consumer and business access to recycling used batteries, raising awareness of its benefits and implementing safe and responsible solutions for the proper disposal of batteries.”

Forest regeneration efforts are in full swing

To commemorate Earth Day, Cirba Solutions, through the Arbor Day Foundation, is funding the planting of approximately 400 trees and creating three new forest sites in areas of high environmental damage.

The initiative is in response to decades of logging, wildfires, and disease that have significantly reduced forest cover in key regions.

In Michigan, a restoration project is underway on national forests that were heavily logged in the late 19th century. The goal is to reintroduce native species such as jackpine and red pine, returning these landscapes to a more natural ecological balance.

Further west, the Chippewa National Forest in northern Minnesota is recovering after widespread destruction from invasive insects, disease and severe storms. Efforts there focus on both wetlands and upland ecosystems, which are important for biodiversity and water systems.

Meanwhile, Oregon continues to recover from the devastating bootleg fires of 2021. The Klamath Falls Basin, home to diverse wildlife including bald eagles and large mammals, is a priority site for reforestation as part of broader Earth Day restoration efforts.

Expanding access to battery recycling

Alongside the tree-planting campaign, Cirba Solutions is using Earth Day to increase public engagement on responsible battery disposal. The company hosts local collection events and promotes tools designed to make recycling more accessible.

One of the major events is the Detroit Zoo’s E-Recycling activity scheduled for April 18 and 19, 2026. Volunteers collect a wide range of batteries, including lithium-ion and alkaline batteries, as well as damaged or recalled batteries that require careful handling.

To support continued participation beyond Earth Day, Cirba Solutions continues to expand its WeRecycle Battery Map, an online platform that connects users to approximately 750 drop-off locations nationwide. These include retail stores, municipal premises and dedicated recycling facilities.

The company also offers WeRecycle Battery Boxes, a compliant, ready-to-use solution for organizations and households to safely package and transport used batteries in accordance with federal guidelines.

Education and long-term involvement

In addition to collection efforts, the company continues to invest in education through its SustainABILITY 10,000 initiative, which focuses on raising awareness about the importance of battery recycling.

Cirba Solutions works with schools, municipalities, businesses, and non-profit organizations to collect used batteries and improve understanding of what to do with them. These partnerships aim to make recycling more accessible while encouraging consistent participation beyond Earth Day.

Support for circular approaches

The company’s Earth Day activities reflect a broader focus on keeping materials in use for longer.

By collecting and processing used batteries, Cirba Solutions is able to recover materials that can be reused in the manufacture of new products, including batteries.

By linking reforestation with practical recycling solutions, this initiative highlights how Earth Day can extend beyond the moment and link environmental restoration with everyday actions that support more sustainable resource use.
