New research reveals that the lack of visible role models for client-oriented roles creates major employment barriers for adults with learning disabilities, including Down syndrome, autism and Asperger’s.

In the UK, there are 150,000 people with learning disabilities, but only 5% are currently employed.

A Hilton survey of over 500 people with learning disabilities found that 79% believe they should do more to promote employment opportunities and the benefits of inclusive employment.

It can have a significant impact on employment levels among people with learning disabilities. This is because three-quarters (74%) feel confident they will apply for roles if they see more people with similar disabilities in the workforce.

Nevertheless, only 16% of respondents in their employees said they had role models with similar conditions to connect and learn.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Hilton’s partnership between Minehead Hospitality College and Aurora Fox, a training hotel that supports young people with learning disabilities.

A long-standing partnership with the Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA) has enabled 52 work placements, with almost 40 team members currently working at Hilton through the DSA’s Work Fit program.

“We’re looking forward to seeing you in the UK and Ireland,” said Stephen Cassidy, Hilton’s senior vice president of UK & Ireland. Improve your guest experience. ”
