David Dastmalchian’s Good Fiend Films Launches Genre Lit Division

David Dastmalchian‘s Good Fiend Films is getting in the lit business.

The production company run by the prolific genre actor is launching Good Fiend Lit, a division that will focus on genre literature, as well as immersive storytelling across horror, sci-fi and fantasy.

“Anyone familiar with me or Good Fiend knows that there is a driving desire behind our work to summon in our audiences that same feeling we felt as kids, hiding under a blanket with a flashlight, nose buried in a transportive or terrifying tale,” Dastmalchian said in a statement. “Comics, novels, movies and more all elicited that sense of excitement and connection that has kept us coming back over and over again. I am honored and excited to help create a community where we can share this experience together with some of my dear FIENDS, old and new.”

Natasha Preston is overseeing the launch of Good Fiend Lit, alongside Dastmalchian, supervising producer Jennie Iacobino and executive creative director Leah Kilpatrick.

Founded in 2023, Good Fiend Films’ output include the Dastmalchian starrer Late Night with the Devil as well as the online interview series Grave Conversations, in which the actor speaks about life and death with guests — while lying in coffins.

The actor got his big break with a role in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, and reteamed with the director best picture winner Oppenheimer. He’s also worked with Denis Villeneuve on Prisoners and Dune, acted in all three Ant-Man movies and starred in The Suicide Squad as Polka-Dot Man. Coming up, he plays villain M. Bison in the new Street Fighter movie.

Dastmalchian grew up reading comics, and is now an author in his own right, with titles such as Count Crowley and Kingdom of Earth for Dark Horse Comics and Knights vs. Samurai for Image Comics.

Good Fiend’s upcoming features include Super XX and The Shepherd, starring Dastmalchian and Barbarian star Georgina Campbell and produced by horror maestros Steven Schneider and Roy Lee of Spooky Pictures.

As for Good Fiend Lit, the first initiative will be Buried in Books, a quarterly bookclub in which Dastmalchian will be joined in conversations by authors, with the initial lineup including Nat Cassidy, Tananarive Due and Josh Malerman. It will kick off at New York Comic Con Oct. 9 at The Twisted Spine in Brooklyn, featuring an in-person conversation between Dastmalchian and Cassidy around Cassidy’s novel When the Wolf Comes Home.
