Deel has lobbed a new volley in an ongoing legal battle with rival HR Tech startup Rip Ring. Deal filed a motion containing a series of letters and asked the Irish court to ripple the information.

In one letter, Deal wants an unedited version of the witness affidavit, including the famous one by former wavy employee Keith O’Brien. According to an affidavit released by Rippling, O’Brien admitted to being a Deal spy in an Irish courthouse, with a story full of twists in a plot read like a film.

Ripling filed a lawsuit against Deal in March, claiming misappropriation of trade secrets, illegal interference and unfair competition, mainly based on espionage allegations.

Deal then rebutted and attempted to dismiss Ripples’ lawsuits on a set of issues like jurisdiction, but made his own claims about Ripples. Deal, for example, claims that Ripples were also trying to spy on Deal.

In a letter released Monday, Deal points to the affidavit of waving employee Vanessa Wu. Many of the affidavits recall Wu recalling alleged spy-related events and that she allegedly adopted various letters sent between the two lawyers.

However, Deal points out that Wu also testified that Ripples fired O’Brien and paid the termination fee in exchange for signing a non-sue contract. WU also said that the ripples “concluded a second agreement with O’Brien who agreed to pay his reasonable litigation costs in connection with the cooperation provided under that agreement,” the affidavit said.

Deal hopes the courts will ripple out fully unedited versions of both of these contracts. It wants to tell people how unusual it is for employees to fire as they returned to the company’s salary as a paid witness.

Needless to say, both sides point their fingers at the other, fiercely declaring their innocence.

We have to wait for court rules, but we will read if it is publicly available to O’Brien’s testimony and publicly termination agreements.
