According to testimony from a federal cybersecurity officer, staff working for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) broke the Treasury policy by sending emails containing unencrypted personal information.
Marko Elez, a Doge staff member who works for the US Treasury, emailed two Trump administration officials a spreadsheet containing unencrypted, personally identifiable information before resigning in early February after racist social media posts were linked to Elez Surfaced Online.
Details of the security course appeared in court on Friday in court that included testimony by David Ambrose, the Treasury Department’s Finance Department’s Finance Department’s Finance Department, which pays trillions of dollars in federal funds to American households each year. The coalition of U.S. Attorney Generals filed a lawsuit to block Erez from accessing the Trump administration’s teams to the highly sensitive personal and financial data about the millions of Americans held by the published Treasury Force.
Ambrose said the Treasury Department conducted a forensic analysis of the Erez department’s department issued laptops after he resigned, according to a court on Friday.
The filing did not say exactly which data was shared, but explained that it includes personal information (such as individuals and organizations), the type of transaction, and amount.
Ambrose said Erez acted “opposed” [the department’s] This is because the data is not encrypted and was approved before the email was sent.
Bloomberg first reported the court filing on Friday.
Erez was rehired on February 18th. He currently works for the Social Security Agency.
In response to the filing, the coalition of U.S. Attorney Generals, which filed the suit, said on Friday that Ambrose’s declaration “does not do anything to alleviate concerns.”
In another case, federal courts are also considering blocking Doge from accessing the Social Security Agency’s system that holds confidential information about Americans.
Elez did not reply to TechCrunch’s request for comment.
