Elon Musk’s X was inaccessible to thousands of users Monday morning. This includes many in the US after a roughly eight-hour shutdown, Musk posted that its platform is facing “massive cyberattacks.”

“We had a massive cyberattack on ๐• (still). We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. One of the large, coordinated groups and/or countries involved. Trace…” he wrote to X.

In a live interview with Fox News on Monday, Musk said the alleged cyberattacks on X appears to come from an IP address originating from the Ukraine region.

There is no evidence of Musk’s claim beyond his words, but it’s not so unremarkable to believe his platform is vulnerable to cyberattacks. Musk is more prominent and controversial than ever under President Donald Trump’s second administration. He has personally led a team called “Doge” through accidental funding, employment and accidental cuts to international aid programs.

Tesla stores are also facing protests against mask oversized and unselected roles in the government, as mask car companies stocks have also declined.

X went down for some users around 5:30am on ET, with over 20,000 users reporting the outage, according to Downdetector, a website that tracks user reports about online outages. These outages appeared to have resolved after about an hour, but the outage returned around 9:30am with over 40,000 users reporting the issue. Some users were able to access X intermittently, but the problem continued past 1:30pm ET.

On platforms of this size, occasional stops are normal, but not convenient for users. One user complained about the down detector. “Day 1 of NFL Free Agency!” Elon corrects this. โ€
