Technology mogul and billionaire Elon Musk confirmed Wednesday that he is finishing his stint as a special US government employee.
Thanking President Donald Trump for “giving him the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” Musk expressed his belief that Doge is here to stay.
Musk’s departure follows what is interpreted as a slow cooling of relations with the Trump administration. Sales of his EV company Tesla are also suffering as his political activities and cooperation with Trump have had a major negative impact on the brand.
Since it was established, Doge has implemented a dramatic wave of cuts in US government spending, bringing thousands of job offers, complete departments shut down, and litigation contact. Doge went after USAID expenditures, public broadcasters, national park budgets, the Department of Education and more.
Could not contact Musk for comment. The White House did not immediately return requests for comment outside of normal business hours.
