Epic Games is taking the winning lap. After a major victory over Apple in years of legal disputes, Epic has announced that the Epic Games store will allow developers to open web shops.

EPIC is caught up in a long legal battle with Apple over iOS App Store fees, which accounts for 30% of developer revenue. The judge ruled in 2021 that Apple could not stop developers from instructing customers to purchase digital products outside of the Apple ecosystem. However, on Wednesday night, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers wrote that Apple was deliberately filing that she was violating her 2021 ruling.

Now, Epic is reverting its flagship game, Fortnite, to the iOS App Store, encouraging users to purchase Fortnite digital products directly through Epic, in order to get a better price.

The new WebShops feature in the Epic Games Store makes it easier for other developers to follow.

Typically, Epic takes a 12% share of developer revenue from the Epic Games store, which is still a better deal than what developers get from Apple. However, starting in June, Epic Games will not be cut from the first $1 million, which is the $1 million annually. Only after the game surpasses $1 million in revenue will it begin to make a grand cut.

“By implementing a new legal ruling, developers can send players to their game to make digital purchases from WebShops on any platform, including the European Union and the US iOS,” says Epic.
