Google has officially unveiled its Pixel 9A smartphone, a new mid-range phone that will be available for sale for $499. The biggest change to the A-Series smartphone is because the latest models throw away the camera bar on the back of the phone.

The newer model comes with Google’s tensor G4 processor, so the smartphone has got a chip upgrade, but its predecessor has a G3 chip. The 9A also promises over 30 hours of battery life, features 8GB of RAM and comes with either 128GB or 256GB of storage.

It will be available from April and comes in four colorways: peony, iris, porcelain and obsidian.

Additionally, the smartphone features an upgraded 6.3-inch Actua display. This is the brightest display ever in the A-Series. For comparison, the new display is 35% brighter than the 2700 nits pixel 8a. The 9A also features an adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz for a smoother experience.

The smartphone’s upgraded dual rear camera system includes both a 13MP ultra-wedy camera and a 48MP main camera. It also features macrofocus for the first time on an A-Series device, so you can explain in detail.

The 9A is equipped with AI-powered photography features such as Add Me, Best Take, Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, Audio Magic Eraser, Night Sight, Astropotography, and The New Panorama.

Google also states that the 9A is the company’s most durable A-Series phone.

Wednesday’s announcement comes weeks after Apple launched its new $599 iPhone 16e.
