Google is giving sheets a Gemini-driven upgrade designed to help users analyze data faster and turn spreadsheets into charts using AI.
This update allows users to access Gemini features and generate insights from data such as correlations, trends, outliers and more. Users can also generate advanced visualizations such as heatmaps and allow them to insert them into cells in spreadsheets as static images.
The company announced an update last month, but Google said Friday it was available to business users in all workspaces.
To get started, you will need to click on the Gemini icon in the top right side of the spreadsheet. From there you can ask things like, “Forecast net profit for the next quarter based on historical data” or “Create a simple heatmap of support cases by category and device.”

Other examples include marketing managers asking Gemini to “provide some insights into my top three performance channels by conversion rate,” and financial analysts asking Gemini to “identify anomalies in product X’s inventory level.”
Gemini can do all this by writing and running Python code, analyzing the results and performing multi-layered analysis, says Google. For easier requests, Gemini may use expressions to provide answers instead of Python code.
The company notes that the data is in a consistent format with clear headers and there are no missing values to allow for accurate results.
