When billionaire Elon Musk introduced his AI company Xai’s latest flagship model, the Grok 3, last Monday, in a live stream, he described it as “AI seeking the greatest truth.” did. However, Grok 3 appears to have temporarily censored surprising facts about President Donald Trump and Musk himself.

Over the weekend, social media users reported asking, “Who is the biggest misinformation spreader?” With the “Think” setting enabled, Grok 3 states that it was explicitly directed in a “chain of thought,” not to mention Donald Trump and Elon Musk. A chain of thought is the “inference” process that models use to arrive at the answer to a question.

TechCrunch was able to replicate this behavior once, but at the time of publication on Sunday morning, Grok 3 again mentioned Donald Trump’s answer to the false alarm query.

“False information” could be a politically charged and contested category, but both Trump and Musk have repeatedly spread apparently false claims (Community Notes on X, owned by Musk) (as often pointed out by). In the past week alone, they have advanced the false narrative that Ukrainian President Voldy Mirzelensky is a “dictator” with a public recognition rate of 4%, and that Ukraine has launched an ongoing conflict with Russia. Ta.

The controversial and obvious tweaks of the Grok 3 have criticized the model as being too left-leaning. This week users discovered that Grok 3 consistently said President Donald Trump and Musk deserve the death penalty. Xai quickly patched the issue. Igor Babuschkin, the company’s engineering director, called it “a really terrible, bad mistake.”

When Musk unveiled Grok about two years ago, he pitched the AI model as edgy, filtering and anti-‘awakening’. He told me some of those promises. For example, being told that it is vulgar, Grok and Grok 2 is willing to obligate, spitting out colorful languages that you don’t hear from ChatGpt.

However, the Grok model before Grok 3 is hedged into political subjects and does not cross certain boundaries. In fact, one study found that Grok leaned against the left on topics such as transgender rights, diversity programs, and inequality.

Musk has condemned the actions of Grok’s training data (public web pages) and pledged to “get Grok closer to political neutrality.” Others, including Openai, are following the fact that perhaps the Trump administration’s accusations of conservative censorship have been spurred.
