Humanity raises $3.5 billion to promote AI ambitions

AI startup Humanity announced Monday it raised $3.5 billion in a post-money valuation led by Lightspeed Venture Partners.

According to CrunchBase, participants were also from Bessemer Venture Partners, Cisco Investments, D1 Capital Partners, Fidelity Management & Research Company, General Catalyst, Jane Street, Menlo Ventures and Salesforce Ventures.

“This investment will help humanity develop next-generation AI systems, expand their computing power, deepen their research into mechanical interpretability and consistency, and accelerate international expansion,” the company wrote in a blog post. “Humanity is focused on developing AI systems that serve as real collaborators, working with teams to tackle complex projects, consolidate information across the field, helping organizations to make a large impact.”

The funding of the human race’s Mammoth Round comes just after the launch of the company’s latest flagship AI model, Claude 3.7 Sonnet. Claude3.7Sonnet is a “hybrid inference” model that allows you to consider queries more carefully before answering. This model is part of humanity’s broad efforts to simplify the user experience with AI products. Most AI chatbots today have a difficult model picker that allows users to choose from several different options with different costs and capabilities. Labs like humanity don’t need to think about it. Ideally, one model will do all the work.

Humanity’s business is growing. The company reportedly had an annual revenue utilization rate of around $1 billion last year. This number has increased by 30% so far in 2025 as it earns cash from APIs that offer models and sell more subscriptions on AI chatbot Claude. However, humanity is spending a huge amount of development of AI systems. The company told investors it expects to burn $3 billion this year, depending on the information.

To enhance profitability, Anthropic has shifted part of its focus on releasing new tools and subscription layers such as computer-used “agents,” desktop clients, and mobile applications. The company also opened an office in Europe and has made several well-known recruits, including Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger, Openai co-founder Durk Kingma, and former Openai safety researcher Jan Leike.

Humanity has strengthened its relationship with Amazon. This has become a major investor and collaborator for AI startups. Amazon said in November that it would be pouring another $4 billion into humanity, working with humanity to optimize training, custom AI chips, for model training workloads. Amazon partnered with humanity to build the upgraded Alexa Virtual Assistant Experience Alexa+. The power part of the human model Alexa+.

Humanity was co-launched in 2021 by CEO Dario Amodei. CEO Dario Amodei is Openai’s Vice President of Research and reportedly split into the company after differences of opinion on Openai’s roadmap. Amodei has brought in many former Openai employees to launch humanity, including Jack Clark, Openai’s previous policy lead.

Humanity often tries to position itself as focusing on safety rather than Openai.
