Kodiak Robotics made a ubiquitous financial move in 2021. YUP is set to make the self-driving truck startup public through a merger with ARES Acquisition Corporation II, a special purpose acquisition company. SPACS loses its glow and the self-driving car space is a bold bet in a market with many closures, including Embark and Tusimple.

Today, TechCrunch’s equity podcast features Kirsten Korosec, Max Zeff and Anthony HA, unpacking this week’s news, including the possibility of SPAC returns in the IPO market that is uncertain. As Kirsten points out, it’s a strange moment for a public debut in the public. Especially after the chatter that marked 2025 the big comeback year for the big hit IPO. Some major players like Klarna and Stubhub have already paused. And with investor Mark Goldberg put it on this week’s show, people holding their breath this year due to the waves of FinTech IPOs “will have blue faces.”

Equity will be back next week, so stay tuned!
