NEW YORK (AP) – Justin Bieber will bring swag to the World Cup’s star-studded Super Bowl-style halftime show, joining fellow headliners Madonna, Shakira and BTS, FIFA announced Wednesday.
Afrobeats star Burna Boy, Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the PS22 Chorus, an elementary school choir based in Staten Island, New York, will also perform, and Coldplay will join in at the end.
The 11-minute halftime performance, directed by Coldplay’s Chris Martin, will take place at the finals on July 19 outside New York. The show supports the FIFA Global Citizenship Education Fund, which is raising $100 million to support children’s education and access to soccer.
“The FIFA World Cup brings the world together in a way that nothing else can,” Bieber said in a statement. “I am grateful to be a part of this halftime show, and even more grateful to know that it is already helping expand access to education for children around the world.”

Among all the performances, Burna Boy’s addition is especially noteworthy. He is one half of this year’s official World Cup song, “Dai Dai,” led by Shakira. The song is a web of their musical landscape of Afrobeats and Latin rhythms, making it an undeniably global and multilingual pop track. In one poem, they name the world’s most famous soccer players and the countries participating in this year’s World Cup: “Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Colombia,” Shakira cheers. “Mexico, Japan, South Korea, and the Netherlands.”
“The FIFA World Cup is one of the few moments when the whole world truly comes together,” Burna Boy said in a statement. “Representing Africa in the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show is an honor and a responsibility that cannot be taken lightly.”
While the Super Bowl is famous for its halftime show, such performances are less common in soccer, with pregame concerts held at events like the Champions League final.
This year’s World Cup halftime performance will feature Sesame Street Muppets, as well as Kermit and Miss Piggy.
