Lagrange, a decentralized ZK Prover network, has signed a contract with Matter Labs to direct the certification demand outsourced to Matter Labs’ outsourcing prover network (LPN) of up to 75% over the next two years. This marks a pivotal moment that drives the transition to distributed proof generation of ZK stacks.
In January 2025, Lagrange consolidated a distributed version of Zk Stack Prover on Zksync to demonstrate that certification generation no longer requires relying on a centralized, single entity solution. This new partnership is something that has never been achieved on this scale, as it allows ZKSYNC to handle more demands in distributed networks.
“We’re committed to providing a range of services to our customers,” said Ismael Hishon-Rezaizadeh, co-founder and CEO of Lagrange. “ZK rollups offer unparalleled scalability, security and cost-effectiveness, making them an inevitable choice for next-generation distributed applications. With this partnership, ZKSYNC can lead charging, and the elastic network operates on an unprecedented scale without shrinking in residence.”
Lagrange spent last year establishing that decentralized proof networks are superior to centralized alternatives. The Lagrange Prover Network (LPN) has already reduced costs, increased throughput, and eliminated the reliance on a single point of concentration failure. Currently, as Material Labs are committed to LPN with up to 75% of the outsourced evidence, the industry is on a clear path towards a fully decentralized ZK rollup ecosystem.
For ZKSYNC users, this leads to reduced gas prices and faster trading. For businesses, this leads to greater confidence in the performance and activity of L2 on elastic networks.
“We’re committed to creating a new and exciting new product,” said Anthony Rose, CTO at Matter Labs, a ZKSYNC contributor. “The decentralized proof increases network resilience compared to centralized models and extends the total available hardware that can be used to generate critical proofs as network activity increases. By integrating with Lagrange’s infrastructure, it increases the flexibility and control available to builders, forces the ZK chain to expand and adapts to Web3.
The ZKSYNC ecosystem boasts about 25 ZK stack chains, 300 applications and 1.3m on-chain transactions in the last month alone (source: Dappradar). Lagrange proved to be able to operate on a large scale, unlocking the next stage of ZK rollup evolution.
Rollup-as-a-Service platforms, including Caldera and Altlayer, also benefit directly from Lagrange by relying solely on the Lagrange Prover network for ecological proof generation.
Important takeouts:
Decentralization – Most of the proof generation of major rollups occurs entirely through distributed networks. Reduce costs – Decentralized proof significantly reduces operating costs and reduces user gas bills. Livension & Security – LPN’s independent prover network ensures continuous uptime, resilience and higher security than centralized alternatives. Revenue and Growth – By capturing more ZKSYNC’s proof demand, Lagrange unlocks new revenue generation and network expansion opportunities.
