Lauv has withdrawn from his It’s Always Summer Somewhere tour with Khalid, citing mental health issues.

In a statement posted on Instagram on Tuesday, June 2nd, former singer-songwriter Ali Staplans Lev wrote, “I have been working hard to become strong enough to return to the field and share this music with you.”

“But I have to be honest with myself and be honest with you all. I’m in a lot of pain right now. I need to take some time off to take care of my mental health,” he continued. “I am truly sorry to my fans, Khalid, and everyone affected by this. You all mean everything to me.”

Lauv went on to point out that his mental health issues were “never a secret” as they were “woven into” many of his songs. “I’m going to do everything I can to get healthy and get back to a creative place and get back to doing what I love most,” he added. “Thank you for your understanding over the years and for sending me Roe.”

The Khalid-led trek began in mid-May, with Raub as a special guest. The two musicians, who collaborated on May’s single “Tide Up,” had completed about half of their scheduled North American dates before Lauv pulled out.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank @lauvsongs for being on tour and doing their best despite the challenges they are facing,” Khalid wrote on Instagram shortly after Lauv’s announcement, sharing a photo of the two posing together. “May you find an abundance of love, light, and clarity in your dark times.”

“It’s so much fun watching you perform and execute with so much passion every night, and I know that once you heal, you’ll continue to do even more great things,” the R&B pop star continued. “Your stories and songs have touched so many fans and listeners, and we will always be there for you.”

The It’s Always Summer Somewhere Tour continues with a show in Nashville on Wednesday (June 3), followed by stops in Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York City, Houston and other U.S. cities. After a short break, Khalid will resume performing in Mexico City, Europe, New Zealand and Australia.
