Meta has acquired AI voice-activated waveforms in total, information reports. This is the company’s latest purchase to enhance the second major AI audio acquisition of new AI units, Superintelligence Labs and Meta after purchasing PlayAI.
Founded just eight months ago, Waveform raised $40 million from Andreessen Horowitz in a round that valued the company as $160 million in primoney per pitchbook data.
Two co-founders of the startup — former meta and open researcher Alexis Connaud, and former Google Ads strategist Coralie Lemaitre, reportedly joined the meta. While at Openai, Conneau co-created the GPT4-O Advanced Voice Mode neural network.
TechCrunch reached out to the waves to see if third co-founder and chief technologist Kartikay Khandelwal would also join Meta.
The waveform appears to have removed its own website, but the company’s LinkedIn page explains its mission to solve the “speech Turing test,” which attempts to measure whether listeners can distinguish between human and AI-generated speeches. The waves also developed “general emotional intelligence.” This focuses on understanding individual self-awareness and management.
