Meta releases global rival editing for Capcut

On Tuesday, Meta announced it would officially launch Edit, a video creation app like CapCut. Once released globally, creators can track video ideas, get inspiration for new content, create videos with effects and AI tools, and more. This app is available on iOS and Android.

All the features of the app are free to access at launch. However, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said earlier this month that the edit version could potentially include paid features.

The company first shared that it was working on editing in January after the refund-owned capcut was removed from the US app store when the Tiktok ban came into effect instantly. The app can then be returned online for download, but as Tiktok’s future in the US remains uncertain, Meta is ready to take advantage of the possibility of Capcut’s absence in the future.

Also, with the launch of the new app, Meta and Instagram can push edits to all kinds of creators as opposed to CapCut of all short form content. In a post of the announcement, Instagram notes that editors are designed to help create videos for “any platforms” that are references to not only Instagram and Facebook, but also competitors such as Tiktok and YouTube shorts.

It is worth noting that one of the major differences between editing and Capcut is the fact that editing cannot be exported through the video. In comparison, exporting videos without watermark requires a Capcut Pro payment.

As for the feature itself, the app’s “ideas” tool allows you to write down new video ideas. The “Project” feature helps you organize and manage different works in one place. The “Inspiration” tool allows you to browse trending audio and create video with discovered audio.

The “Green Screen” feature in Edit allows you to replace the background of your video. Additionally, the “Timeline” feature helps you arrange and adjust clips. You can also add automatic captions to your videos along with music from your Instagram library.

What’s more, thanks to the app’s “animation” feature, you can turn static images into videos using AI. The app’s “cutout” feature allows you to accurately track and isolate certain objects.

If you’re happy with the video, you can share it directly to Instagram or Facebook from within the app. Alternatively, you can export the video and post it to other platforms.

The editor also includes insights to help you learn about content strategy and factors that can affect reach and distribution.

Meta has messed around with several new features available in future editing, such as a “change” tool that allows creators to use AI to change the “look and feel” of videos. Additionally, the “Keyframe” feature allows users to select specific moments to reposition, rotate, or size clips.

Additionally, creators will soon be able to work with other creators and brands to get feedback on the draft. Meta will also release more fonts, text animations, transitions, audio effects, filters, sound effects and music options in the future.
