Meta is forming a new team within the Reality Labs Hardware Division to build robots that can assist with physical tasks, Bloomberg reported. The team will be responsible for developing potential humanoid robot hardware that potentially includes hardware that can do household chores.
The new Robotics Group, led by Marc Whitten, led by former CEO of driverless car startup cruises, will also create robotics software and AI. According to his LinkedIn profile, Whitten also has stints on Amazon, Microsoft and Sonos.
To be clear, Meta’s plan is not about building a Metabrand robot. At least not at first. Rather, META executives, including CTO Andrew Bosworth, believe that on a Bloomberg, there is an opportunity to build the remaining hardware foundations of the robot market, similar to what Google has achieved with Android operating systems in the smartphone sector. .
Bloomberg reports that Meta has also entered into discussions with robotics companies, including Unitree Robotics and Figure AI, to partner with the prototype.
