New York MTA rethinks subway bottlenecks

New York City Metropolitan Transportation is set to resolve decades-old bottlenecks with its subway system, Gossa Mist’s Stephen Nessen reports.

“It’s called Nostrand’s linkage, and everyone passing it is familiar with its rage. The linkage is on a stretch in central Brooklyn where two, three, four and five lines cross, and dozens of trains need to grind every hour.” As Nessen explains, this section causes significant delays.

Now, the MTA aims to reconfigure services to reduce the number of competition at the interchanges by essentially replacing routes 3 and 5 east of Franklin Avenue. Instead of dropping Nostrand Avenue, the MTA will run under the Eastern Parkway.

The $65 billion plan, part of the recently approved five-year capital plan, requires the construction of a new crossover truck. “Currently, our agency doesn’t have a strict timeline to fix the bottlenecks, but we plan to work on it over the next few years.”
