Does it drive you crazy how quickly the night changes? Not too long ago, One Direction was the biggest boy band on the planet, a title now objectively held by BTS, but Niall Horan shared his thoughts in a new interview.
The 1D alum opened up to Jake Shane on Wednesday’s (June 3) episode of Theraps about the similarities and differences between his former boy band and BTS. “None of our performances were particularly choreographed or correct or anything like that,” Horan said on the podcast about K-pop groups. “So they’re very different.”
“It seems like every generation has boy bands, but they’re all a little different from each other,” he continued. “We didn’t wear all-white outfits and do routines like, say, *NSYNC or Backstreet. [Boys]. we just walked around [on stage]. I think K-Pop is more structured, but looks more like an athlete. ”
The Irish singer-songwriter went on to praise BTS in particular. “When you watch BTS dance, you think, ‘OK, to be honest, I don’t know how to do anything you’re doing, but what you’re doing is kind of crazy.'” It’s pretty intense, but it’s great. ”
One Direction, whose members also include Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and the late Liam Payne, may not have danced much, but they’ve still dominated pop culture for years. The X Factor quintet had 29 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 and six Top 10 hits before BTS took the baton, and the K-pop superstars boast seven No. 1s to date.
Elsewhere in the pod, Horan gave flowers to another dominant force in the music world, Taylor Swift. Her 2019 Lover song “Miss Americana and the Broken Prince” “might be her best song,” said the former voice coach, adding, “The melody is so good…I love the line, ‘Play stupid games and win stupid prizes.'”
“And ‘Me!'” Horan added. “‘Myself!’ is also a good song.”
Horan’s new album, Dinner Party, will be released on Thursday (June 5th). Check out his full interview with Therapus below.
