Openai co-founder John Schulman has left humanity less than a year after joining an artificial intelligence startup. The company confirmed his departure late Wednesday.

“It’s sad to see John go, but I fully support his decision to pursue new opportunities and hope for him the best,” says Jared, Chief Science Officer of Humanity. Kaplan said in an emailed statement to Reuters.

The information was the first report of Shulman’s exit from humanity.

“John Schulman, co-founder of Openry, who joined rival humanity last year, left his role at the startup, said a human spokesman. His departure has not been reported previously.” Information has been reported.

Schulman moved to humanity after leaving Openai in August last year. His goal was to focus more on AI coordination and return to practical technical work. This is a transition from the high-level role he had previously.

Shulman is now the second former Openai employee leaving humanity. Jan Leike, who co-leaded Openai’s SuperAlignment team, joined humanity in May 2024 after leaving Openai. These shifts highlight the fluid movement of talent in the AI industry, where top researchers move frequently between major companies.

Humanity, which competes directly with Openai in the AI Foundation Model Space, has seen strong growth. The company’s annual revenue is approximately $875 million, and the AI model is available both directly and through cloud services such as Amazon Web Services.

Humanity was founded in 2021 by former Openai executives, Dario Amodei (CEO), Daniela Amodei, Jack Clark, Sam McCandlish, and Tom Brown. Driven by the transformational possibilities of Generated AI, Dario, and Daniela Amodei, it created a “manipulable, interpretable, robust large-scale AI system.” Before launching humanity, Daniela Amody served as Vice President of Safety and Policy for the Open.
