To expand the Indian user base, Reddit has updated its machine translation feature to support Hindi’s automatic translation of posts and comments.
“This expansion allows authentic, more people-equipped content to be accessed in one of India’s most spoken languages,” the company wrote in an update to its blog post. Reddit said it will add support for Bengal soon.
Reddit began testing site-wide machine translation capabilities starting in May last year. In September, the company launched the feature in over 35 countries, adding support for Spain and Portugal.
Earlier this month, the company deployed AI-powered search capabilities, Answers, users in India, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore and the UK, making it available to a limited number of English-speaking users in the US.
India remains a major focus for social platforms. The company employs several people in community building, growth, law and engineering positions in India, and actively employs people in content and community roles.
