In a series of posts on Monday about X, Openai CEO Sam Altman said the popularity of the company’s new image generation tool at ChatGPT will cause unspecified product delays.

“We’re in control of things, but we need to expect new releases from Openai to slow down, to deal with the challenges of breaking and capabilities,” Altman writes. “You can work quickly.

Due to the impressive ability to recreate Studio Ghibli’s hand-drawn animation-like style, Openai’s new image generation feature has won many fanfares and controversy. Over the weekend, Altman said in a post on X that the company “had not been able to keep up since launching,” and that staff worked late into the night and “maintaining service” over the weekend.

In the hour Monday, ChatGpt added 1 million new users, Altman claimed in a post. CHATGPT has 300 million users, 15.5 million subscribers to 500 million users and 20 million paying subscribers at the end of 2024.

To facilitate capacity issues, OpenAI has delayed the release of its image generation tool for free ChatGPT users and temporarily disable video generation for new users of SORA, the company’s suite of generation AI media tools.
