Spotify’s latest features allow you to add your own transitions to your playlist

Spotify introduces new features that allow subscribers to create more professional and personalized playlists. On Tuesday, the company launched a custom transition feature. This allows you to automatically add transitions between tracks in your playlist, or use preset options such as Fade, Rise, Blend to customize your own transitions using other options.

To use the feature, open any playlist and select “Mix” from the toolbar to start editing. You can also customize tracks with different transition styles, adjust settings such as volume, EQ, effects, and more, and use the waveform and beat data to find the best spot for each track and start the transition.

Note that Spotify automatically displays the keys and beats per minute for each track, allowing beginner audio mixers to start.

The new option is designed to appeal to playlist experts and other music fans who have previously created nearly 9 billion playlists on Spotify’s platform.

The rollout complements other updates Spotify has launched over the past year, giving users more control over the listening experience, including tools that add, sort and edit playlists, customize Discover Weekly Playlist, Snooze Tracks genres, and create audio requests for AI DJs. Spotify can also compete with Apple Music’s upcoming Automix features. This currently lives in iOS 26 developer beta and claims that it can mix “Dig a DJ.”

Premium subscribers with access to the transition feature can also save and share playlists with other friends on social media, or invite other subscribers to collaborate with mixed playlists.

You can turn it on and off at any time by pressing the “mix” option, and when your party or gym workout (or where you’re streaming the mix), you can move the playlist back to a more traditional kind.

The company recommends mixing works best with music already produced for a seamless transition, such as House and Techno, which tend to melt more easily.

Like other playlists, the mix can be further customized using its own cover art, along with newly added stickers and labels made for mixed playlists.

Custom Playlist transitions are available today by the majority of eligible premium users around the world. (The company says some markets in the APAC region still need to wait for additions.) The feature is gradually being rolled out to users who have updated their Spotify apps on iOS or Android.
