Waymo 4: Tesla 0

Elon joked (several times) that Waymo cars cost a “way” “way” because they require a reddar and radar to operate autonomously in addition to cameras. Tesla wants to drive autonomously with only cameras, but has yet to achieve fully automated driving capabilities.

The goal is to get there quickly using better AI and Lotta Compute Power. And that might work for Tesla. It may not be the case.

In any case, Musk said, “I don’t think anyone can compete with Tesla at the moment,” despite the fact that Waymo already has some plans and is operating commercially in four cities, and Tesla is operating commercially in zero cities.

Again, Mask bends his hat to Tesla’s promise to achieve autonomy with the current sensor suite of cameras and an end-to-end neural network approach trained with billions of examples of real data. The land Teslas can then be transformed into Robotaxis with anything other than a software update. However, it does not mention all Tesla vehicles that require hardware updates to achieve that goal.
