Sutir Balaji, a former Openai employee, was found dead on November 26th in an apartment in San Francisco. On Friday, a city medical inspector ruled his death as a suicide, countering allegations that promoted widespread speculation by his family online.

Balaji made the headline in October when he accused Openai of training AI models using copyrighted materials. He publicly shared his concerns and provided information to the New York Times. The New York Times later named him an important person with “unique and relevant documents” in the paper’s lawsuit against Openai. His revelation has come among increasing numbers of publishers and artists to sue Open Rie for allegedly infringing copyright.

A few days before his death, Balaji was planning a machine learning nonprofit to celebrate his 26th birthday, and was in good spirits a few days before his death. His sudden passing attracted attention from people like Elon Musk and Tucker Carlson, with Rep. Locanna calling for a “complete and transparent investigation.”

Certainly, according to a report from a San Francisco County Medical Inspector, Balaji’s death was a self-harm gunshot and a debate on AI ethics, corporate accountability and dangers facing Silicon Valley whistleblowers. It became the focus of. I still can’t see if these will be released or not.
