These new categories are designed to help users find compatible matches by grouping profiles according to the dating intent. The “serious dater” option focuses on users looking for a long-term relationship, while “new friends” appears to be Tinder’s strategy to compete with Bumble BFF, which connects users to friendships.

Released in 2021, The Explore Page organizes profiles into categories curated based on shared interests, such as “Binge Watchers,” “Coffee Date,” and “Nature Lovers.” There is also a feature called “Free Tonight” that connects users who are available on the same day.

According to a Tinder report, users are clearly embracing a new trend called “Loud Looking.” There, people say goodbye to dating ambiguity and say in advance about their desires. The updated Explore Tiles aims to promote this clarity, reflecting an increasing number of norms to be more honest about dating intentions.

The update is strategically timingd the week before Valentine’s Day and is intended to attract users who want to find a date for a special occasion.
