Canadian Innovation Week, held from May 26-30, brings together innovators, partners and communities across Canada to spotlight the real impact of bold ideas, from local projects to global breakthroughs.
The event organizer, the Rideau Hall Foundation, is committed to showcasing Canadian innovations that are relevant, accessible and meaningful to everyone.
The message behind Canada’s Innovation Week
Canada’s Innovation Week is a growing national movement that celebrates the excellence of innovation, amplifies success stories both locally and nationally, and creates conditions for bold ideas to flourish.
It combines face-to-face and virtual events, inviting participation from Canadians of all ages, regions and sectors.
“We’ve seen the latest trends in our Rideau Hall Foundation,” explained Teresa Marquez. “We will build momentum and networks that will help innovation take root and grow across Canada through narratives, rituals and community-driven events.
Daily Theme: A Week of Actual Innovation
Every day of Canada’s Innovation Week this year highlights different aspects of innovation by celebrating people, ideas and actions that promote progress across Canada. they are:
Monday, May 26th: Collaboration in Action
This theme shows that turning big ideas into even greater impacts celebrates cross-sector partnerships that do not occur in isolation and promote meaningful progress.
Tuesday, May 27th: Community Activities
In many cases, major changes start locally. The day is highlighting grassroots projects, nonprofits and post-secondary innovators making a difference.
Wednesday, May 28th: Youth’s Behavior
Young people are at the forefront of innovation. This theme celebrates bold youth-led ideas and original + national awards ceremony.
Thursday, May 29th: Canada’s actions
Innovation creates lasting impacts by changing systems and rethinking the future. Most of the day was the Governor’s Innovation Award at Rideau Hall.
Friday, May 30th: Future Actions
Innovation is to imagine and ask possibilities. The final day explores the next steps to technology, policy and social innovation across Canada.
Signature Events highlight key innovations in Canada
This year’s Canada Innovation Week includes two in-person events that highlight the incredible range and depth of innovation taking place across the country.
Original + National Ceremony – May 28th
The original + challenge can be permanently innovated to young people aged 14-18. The national ceremony will celebrate 16 finalists from across Canada, announce five national winners, highlighting the next generation of problem solvers and change makers.
Governor’s Innovation Award (GGIA) – May 29th
At the Rideau Hall, GGIA celebrates six recipients whose transformative innovation has made a positive impact in Canada. These awards celebrate the power of excellence, diversity and Canada’s innovation.
How to participate in Canada’s Innovation Week
Canada Innovation Week 2025 is not just a celebration, it’s a platform for action.
RHF is calling for organizations and individuals across the country to engage by hosting events, highlighting innovators and sharing stories that drive ideas forward.
Partner events take place from coast to coast, featuring a range of initiatives, including clean technology breakthroughs, reconciliation efforts, student-led startups, and Indigenous knowledge-based solutions.
