Drivers across the country can save even more £1,500 for the UK’s most popular car brands, as Nissan, Renault and Vauxhall models join Citroen in the government’s flagship electric vehicle grant (ECG) scheme.
Thirteen electric vehicles have been declared eligible under the electric vehicle grant, bringing the total to 17 models.
This boost is part of the government’s £650 million scheme, which will help you own EVs cheaper and easier to own.
In total, the government has invested £4.5 billion to turbocharge its switch to EVS, securing its UK position as a global leader in EV adoption. In 2024, the UK’s largest EV market and one-third of the year saw sales rise.
Adoption of turbochargers through electric vehicle subsidies
ECG is part of a £4.5 billion investment from the government in adopting turbocharged electric vehicles, boosting the industry and exerting driving growth as part of its change plan.
Due to the advance costs often cited as a barrier to buying EVs, discounts are designed to lower the price of models, making them more closely matched with gasoline and diesel counterparts.
Discounts are automatically applied at the point of sale without the need for documents from the customer. It closes with a car up to £37,000 to target support with the most affordable options. More models are expected to be approved in the coming weeks as manufacturers’ applications will be assessed against the scheme’s sustainability criteria.
Over 82,000 Parkle Charge Points are now available – they’re added every 30 minutes – and over 100,000 governments are building infrastructure that needs to confidently switch drivers for infrastructure.
Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander commented:
“This is about supporting drivers, bringing money back into people’s pockets, creating jobs and growth that will drive the UK forward, and providing a plan for change.”

The new electric vehicles participating in the four Citroen models eligible under the grant of electric vehicles are:

“The other wave of cars eligible for the government’s improved electric vehicle subsidies is even more welcome news, and it’s very positive to see other manufacturers that don’t meet Grant’s green production targets lower prices,” said Simon Williams, RAC’s policy director.
“Now those looking to create a switch have the option of a better value vehicle than ever before, which will help speed up the transition to electric motoring.”
Industry support for electric vehicle subsidies
Working closely with the industry, the Transportation Agency offers discounts that drivers can use quickly to publish guidance to make it as easy as possible for manufacturers to apply.

“Nissan has always been a pioneer in electric vehicles, and this announcement is an exciting step in the UK’s electrification journey. Minecraft and Aliya are the first, with three new EVs including all the electric British-made leaves for sale later this year.”
Vauxhall Managing Director Steve Catlin added:
“We welcome the support of electric vehicle subsidies, including all the electric models in the Vauxhall lineup (which were manufactured here at the Ellesmere Port plant).
