The world has awakened to shocking news that Israel has resumed its massacre war with Gaza.
There were lots of questions: how many people were hurt? Why is this happening? How did you get here?
Here’s what we know:
What’s going on in Gaza?
Israel killed more than 400 people in an overnight attack on Tuesday and launched an air raid when people slept early in the morning.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a statement announcing the resumption of Israel’s war with Gaza.
Where was the attack taken?
Reports say Israeli raids target governors in the north, central and southern regions.
Al Jazeera Arabic reported that Israeli tanks had fired the town of Abasan in Khan Eunice.
“Most airstrikes are found in large areas where people are evacuated, makeshift schools and residential buildings,” said Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abou Azzoum.
What do you know about the victims?
At least 404 people have been reportedly killed by Israel in a matter of hours.
Images coming out of the ground showed children among the victims. There is still an unknown number of people under the tile rub.
The government media office said “most of these martyrs and missing people are women, children and elderly,” adding that in some cases “all family members” were killed.
What reasons did Israel give to break the ceasefire?
Israel claims that Hamas is doing this to force them to release prisoners of war detained in Gaza.
They also claim to know Hamas is planning to resume a new attack.
However, “Israel itself has decided to remove itself from negotiations for Phase 2 of this contract, which ultimately decided to see that the end of the war and the release of all 59 Israeli prisoners still being held in Gaza,” said Hamda Salfut of Al Jazeera.
Israel had been trying to avoid moving to the second phase of the ceasefire, with support from the US, but Hamas argues that the deal should continue to the second phase, as originally agreed.
What does Hamas say?
Hamas has issued a statement on Telegram, accusing Israel of violating the ceasefire and continuing genocide.
The attack was called “a blatant violation of all international and humanitarian treaties,” and the dangerous humanitarian situation and the lack of fuel on the ground meant that many people injured had died from their failure to reach the hospital.
What was the response in the US?
The White House said Israel consulted the US before resuming the attack.
What do you know about prisoners?
According to the Israeli government, there are around 59 Israeli prisoners remaining in Gaza, but there are still those left in Gaza.
Hamas accused Israel of violating a ceasefire and putting the lives of prisoners of war.

What led to this escalation?
We talked about Israel’s claims and how negotiations actually went.
Looking back, Israel may have intended to leave Gaza or stop the war.
When both sides agreed to a ceasefire, Israel refused to state in writing that it would not resume its enemy after the first phase.
Hamas still agreed to the terms after receiving verbal assurance from mediators (Egypt, Qatar, USA) that Israel would not resume the war on the war on the Palestinians.
The United States, which supplies most of Israel’s arms and provides unwavering support, is the only country with actual leverage to Israel, and it is clear that it has renewed its promise to protect Palestinian lives from illegal, perhaps criminal violence.
But Israel said it was just doing this for prisoners, right?
That’s very, very hard to believe.
Israel’s war in Gaza is also part of a wider conflict that is engaging in the region and claims it is necessary for its security.
It has almost bombed southern Lebanon since a ceasefire was signed between it and the Lebanese government. On March 16th, four people were killed in two villages.
The same night, Israel claimed that it was targeting the remnants of the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who had been exiled, but it is not clear why it relates to them.
Furthermore, Israel continues its violent campaign of attacks on occupied West Bank refugee camps, claiming it is attempting to eradicate Palestinian fighter jets.
However, experts previously told Al Jazeera that armed groups in Palestinian refugee camps pose no threat to Israel. It was formed in 2021 to respond to the violent and frequent attacks in Israel and the frequent and violent attacks that violate international law.
