Critics are looking at the no-confidence vote as part of a broader move to undermine the Netanyahu government’s judicial check.

The Israeli Cabinet said it had passed an unconfident vote for Attorney General Galli Baharaf Miara, the country’s Justice Minister, as the first step in removing critics of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and yet another statement from his far-right government.

The vote on Sunday came just two days after the government rejected Lonen Baa, head of the country’s internal security agency, Singh Bet.

According to the prime minister’s office, Baharav-Miara, the country’s most senior justice officer, is accused of “inappropriate behavior” and “continuous differences of opinion between the government and the attorney general that prevents effective cooperation.”

The Attorney General, who failed to attend the Cabinet meeting, rebutted the claim and accused the government of trying to work beyond the law. “As part of a broader move to undermine the Judicial Branch, the unconfident vote aimed at gaining endless power and “promoting loyalty to the government,” said in a letter sent to the Cabinet before the vote.

The vote has not yet been translated into her dismissal. The committee will consider the discussion and hold hearings to consider the case. If the committee did not support her removal, the Supreme Court could still block it.

Those who are in charge of the move to fire Israeli government's Attorney General Gali Baharav Miara and top security agency chief Ronen Barr will be taking part in the Cabinet meeting in Jerusalem on March 23, 2025.

The attempt to fire both the Chief of Singh Bett and the Attorney General has attracted thousands of protesters who say the unprecedented move is a threat to democracy and are part of the crackdown on the few remaining voices critical of Netanyahu.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister cited “continuous lack of trust” in a bar where he is expected to testify on April 8th.

Critics say the prime minister opposed Barr due to his criticism of the government for his failure to security allowed Hamas to attack Israel on October 7, 2023, the most deadly day in the country’s history. They also argue that Netanyahu’s ongoing bribery trial is being developed.

Singh Bett investigated Netanyahu’s intimate companions on suspicion of receiving money related to Qatar.

In a letter, Burr said his expulsion was motivated by his desire to stop the “pursuit of truth” about the events that took place until October 7th.

Netanyahu’s office has dismissed allegations such as “fake news.”
