But finally, 26-year-old YouTuber and Chocolatier Mrbeast are focusing on President Donald Trump’s controversial plan to charge cleaning fees for imports.
Jokes aside, prolific YouTuber Mrbeast is perhaps the most influential public figure among American children. You may not like it, but it’s true.
In X’s post, he points out that for some companies like the chocolate business feast, Trump’s tariffs don’t actually encourage businesses to move manufacturing to the US.
“Ironically, because of all new tariffs, it’s much cheaper to sell chocolate bars we sell worldwide in the US, as other countries don’t have more than 20% tariffs on our COG,” the YouTuber wrote.
Currently, Feastables is produced in both Peru and the US, but sources cocoa internationally and claims to pay farmers a living wage. (Sidenote: The “Ethical Sourcing” section of Feastables on the website is followed by another menu option entitled “Worldwide Domination.”
If Feastables imports ingredients to the US, manufactures chocolate bars in the US, and ships chocolate to sell overseas, the company is losing a lot of money on tariffs. So, as Mrbeast says, his company is also just manufacturing chocolate bars for sale overseas at its Peru factory to avoid tariffs.
In other words, Mrbeast says he feels the president’s tariff plans are myopic.
As Mrbeast fans of middle school history classes can probably tell you, one of the reasons the country has been trading goods with each other for thousands of years is that crops are not growing anywhere. This means that certain American companies, like feasts, have no choice but to source products like cocoa from other countries.
“By the way, we pay farmers livelihoods and use fair trade certified beans. So I was already spending a lot on cocoa. The random price hike was a pretty cruel NGL,” Mrbeast continued. “We get that. I feel like a small business. It could be a nail in the co-op for them.”
