Gemini’s mobile adoption has skyrocketed since the launch of the Nano Banana Image Editor Model in August, with positive reviews, especially from users who have made it easier to perform complex editing and create realistic images. According to new data provided by the app Intelligence Firm Appfigures, the app has appeared at the top of the global app store charts, with a 45% increase in downloads over several months in September so far.

Although there are only half of the month, Gemini’s app has already gained 12.6 million downloads, up from 8.7 million in September.

Before this month, Gemini was only third in the US app store on January 28, 2025.

Shortly after the release of Nano Banana, Gemini reached number two in the US app store on September 8th. After that, it became the No. 1 app on September 12th. This comes after knocking down Openai’s ChatGpt to second place.

Gemini has also become one of the top five iPhone apps overall in 108 countries around the world, Appfigures data shows.

On Google Play, Gemini jumped out of the US top 26 overall app on September 8th, becoming the No. 2 app as of Monday. However, despite Android being Google’s own platform, ChatGpt remains at the top at the time of writing.

Google is promoting Gemini’s growth as more mainstream users have tried out new image editing features. For example, Google Gemini and Google Labs VP Josh Woodward shared on X on September 8th that they had 23 million first-time users since the launch of the Nano Banana model, and that those users had shared over 500 million images.

The rapid growth of apps is also driving increased consumer spending.

Of the $6.3 million Gemini generated on iOS devices this year, $1.6 million has been around since August, many of which have appeared after the release of the nanobanana model. That’s an increase of 1,291% from the $115,000 figure in January.

The app is also on track to match at least the number in August in September, as Gemini this month pulls in $792,000 so far, about half of its August total.

This year, Gemini’s app has been downloaded 103.7 million times, and has seen 185.4 million downloads since its launch on Android in February 2024, with an expansion to iOS later that year.
